I'm starting my New Year's resolution early this year. My plan is to take one picture of something from my day each day--to be my own photojournalist you might say. We'll see how well I keep up with this. Life just slips by so fast, and I don't have a lot of time to actually sit down and write in my journal, or even do a blog post, but since a picture's worth a thousand words, and it takes seconds to snap one...well it seems like a better alternative to remembering nothing. I'll attempt captions as well, to satisfy the little English major who lives inside me.
So what better way to start off than to showcase my relaxing Sunday afternoon lunch--Trader Joe's butternut squash ravioli with a butter and honey sauce, garnished with arugala, goat cheese, raspberries, and red onion. Recently I have become much more interested in the food I eat due to Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, which I highly recommend to anyone interested in knowing the truth about the source of our daily bread. Pollan is a thorough journalist--he even buys a cow just to follow it through the system--so I trust what he says, and find his opinions to be very objective overall. I suppose that growing up on a farm where we already ate organic meat, and having a mom who was into organic foods, I never put that much thought into what entered my digestive tract. Now that I am truly on my own, however, and have to make economic, ethical, and medically-aware grocery choices, the stakes are higher, and the topic more relevant.
All that being said, here is my picture of the day--not a totally organic, locally grown meal like I would prefer, but better than ravioli in a can!
